Род многолетних эпифитных травянистых растений семейства Орхидные, впервые описан Рихардом Шлехтером в 1914 году. Название рода происходит от греческих слов «ascos» — сумка и «kentron» — шпорец и указывает на наличие большого шпорца в основании губы.

Низкорослые моноподиальные растения по габитусу напоминающие виды рода Ванда.©

× Ascocenda (Ascda) - искусственный гибрид между Ascocentrum и Vanda (Asctm × V). Впервые представлен в Orchid Rev. в 1949 году.

Цветы крупные, яркие, разнообразной окраски. Цветение наступает 1-3 раза в год.©

В прирде растение встречается - central China, western Himalayas, Assam India, Bangladesh, eastern Himalayas, Nepal, Bhutan, Sikkim, Andaman Islands, Myanamar, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. Поселяется на высотах от 300 до 900 метров над уровнем моря, предпочитает листопадные деревья, растущие вдоль рек в субтропических лесах.©
