Род включает в себя 9 видов и 8 естессвенных гибридов эпифитных орхидей, которые в дикой природе произрастают в Atlantic Forest в Бразилии, Аргентине и Парагвае.

Впервые род был представлен публике Джоном Линдли (John Lindley) в 1837 году, как первого представителя рода он описал вид Miltonia spectabilis.

Название роду было дано в честь британского любителя орхидей по имени Lord Fitzwilliam Milton. ©

Miltonia spectabilis var.moreliana.
